GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HNDPROGRAMMES
i. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS SSCE Candidates: Six Passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and
Mathematics; and at least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.
WASSCE Candidates: Six Passes (A1-D7) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics;and must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area ofspecialization.ii. GBCE/ ‘O’/A’LEVEL/ABCE APPLICANTS Five (5) GBCE /GCE‘O’-Level credit passes (including English Language and Mathematics)plus at least two (2)GCE‘A’ level/ABCE passes excluding General Paper.iii. APPLICANTS FROM TECHNICAL SCHOOLS (CERTIFICATE II APPLICANTS) Applicants must have passes in three (3) subjects including English Language and Mathematicsand Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant elective subjects/trade courses.iv. DBS APPLICANTS Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics plus at least three (3)passes in relevant DBS subjects.v. TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE Applicant must have Three- Year Post-Secondary Certificate or Four Year Certificate „A‟ with aminimum of two (2) years teaching experience, plus three (3) GCE O-Level or SSSCE/WASSCEpasses in relevant elective subjects.
vi.MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants must be twenty-five (25) years old and must show proof of age with birthcertificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is twenty-five (25)years old at the time of application. Must pass a written test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge to beconducted by the Koforidua Polytechnic.vii. OTHER APPLICANTS Apart from the general HND entry requirements stated above, applicants with the followingqualifications may apply for consideration to these HND programmes:
(a) HND Secretaryship & Management Studies
Five(5) passes in Diploma inBusinessStudies (DBS) Or Diploma in Office Management (DOM) conducted by WAEC, plus four SSSCE/WASSCE creditpasses including English Language and Mathematics and two elective subjects. Senior/ Private Stenographer Certificate.
(b) HND Programmes in Engineering
Technician Certificate (at least Intermediate or a Craft Course) holders plus passes inSSSCE/WASSCE English Language, Mathematics and Science. Or Passes in the three (3) Pre-HND subjects (viz. English, Mathematics and Science) plus at leastan Intermediate/Craft or Technician Certificate, Or Technician Certificate Part II in CTC, EET,MVT or MET ,Or Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD) in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or Construction.
(c) HND Biomedical Engineering Technology and HND Medical Laboratory Sciences
SSSCE ApplicantsSix Passes (A1-D7) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, English Language,Mathematics and Integrated Science plus three (3) Credits (A1-C6) in electives, Chemistry,Biology Mathematics or Physics. The applicant must have a pure science background from GCE O & A level and SSSCE/WASSCE.
(d) HND Food Technology
SSSCE/WASSCE or Equivalent Applicant must satisfy the minimum requirement of three (3) credit passes (A1-D7) in theCore subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), plus three (3)Elective Credits passes in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.Or Five (5) GCE “O” Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,Biology or Agriculture plus two (2) GCE “A” Level passes in any two of the followingsubjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture. Or Applicants must possess aLaboratory Technician Certificate from a recognized institution Must have a minimum of two (2) years relevant working experience and Must pass a written examination in English language, Mathematics and General knowledgeconducted by Koforidua Polytechnic. Or The applicant must possess a LaboratoryTechnician certificate plus at least passes in NABPTEX English Language, Mathematics andScience. Or Applicants must have a Three Year Post-Secondary Teacher‟s Certificate orFour-Year Certificate with a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience, plus three (3)GCE “O” Level or SSSCE/WASSCE passes which must include English, Core Mathematicsand any science subject (Physics, chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science etc.) OR
Applicant must be a holder of Diploma inEducationcertificate. Or Applicants must be
twenty-five (25) years old and must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimatedocumentary proof of date of birth which is twenty-five (25) years old at the time ofapplication. In addition the applicant must pass a written test in English Language,Mathematics and General Knowledge to be conducted by Koforidua Polytechnic.
(e) HND Postharvest Technology
SSSCE APPLICANTS: Three (3) passes (A1-D7) in core subjects i.e. English, Mathematics, and Integrated Scienceplus three (3) credit passes in relevant subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Biology,Elective Maths, Horticulture, Geography, Agriculture Extension, General Agriculture, AnimalHusbandry). Or Five (5) GCE “O” Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,Biology or Agriculture plus two (2) GCE “A” Level passes in any two of the following subjects:Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture. Or Mature Applicant must be at least twenty-five (25) years old and a Science/Agriculturalgraduate, and must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentation. Must have at least two (2) years working experience in Agricultural related field. Must pass a written examination in English language, Mathematics and General knowledgeconducted by Koforidua Polytechnic.
NB:
ADMISSION OF DIPLOMA INBUSINESSSTUDIES (DBS)GRADUATESTO LEVEL 200 OF THE
HND PROGRAMMES OF STUDY
Applicants who hold Diploma inBusinessStudies (DBS) certificates with Distinction or
Credit passes from any of theGhanaEducationService (GES) accredited institutions areeligible for admission to Level 200 to pursue any of the relevant Business / Sciencerelated programmes of study at the HND level. Similarly, applicants who hold DBScertificates with a minimum of pass(es) from any of the GES accredited institutions areeligible for admission to Level 100 to pursue any of the relevant business/science relatedprogrammes of study at the HND level. The above requirements should be backed withat least four (4) WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes including English Language and
Mathematics.
