Trauma Informed Care

SIMHS is increasing the scope of services available to children, youth and families who are impacted by traumatic stress within our Staten Island community. Types of Traumatic Stress Children, youth and families can be exposed to a range of traumatic experiences such as Community Violence, Complex Trauma, Domestic Violence, Early Childhood Trauma, Medical Trauma, Natural Disasters, Neglect, Physical Abuse, Refugee Trauma, School Violence, Sexual Abuse, Terrorism and Traumatic Grief.

SIMHS is honored to be a grantee of the NATIONAL CHILD TRAUMATIC STRESS NETWORK (NCTSN), and join in their mission: “To raise the standard of care and improve access to services for traumatized children, their families and communities throughout the United States.” – NCTSN





Services Available

Individual, Group and Family Therapy
Licensed Mental Health Clinicians provide time-limited therapeutic interventions utilizing evidence-based treatment modalities such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) and Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS).




School Based Mental Health
Our school-based OMH clinics provide support to students and families within the school setting. Licensed clinicians work with children and youth to build resiliency by improving Emotional Regulation, Problem Solving, Stress Management, Trauma, Communication and Goal-Setting and cope with Loss Reminders.




Services for Military Families
SIMHS is committed to developing our capacity to serve military involved children, youth and families based on their unique challenges related to military life and culture. Our goal is to help reduce the stress that military children experience, and foster individual and family resilience.
